2025 Adventures in Gardening starts with a class on vegetable gardening.
On January 25, Erath County Master Gardeners (ECMG) launched its 2025 Adventures in Gardening series with a class on vegetable gardening. More than 50 Erath County residents attended.
Certified master gardener Ken Stokes taught the class, which covered a broad range of topics, from choosing a location and preparing the soil to planting, watering, and keeping weeds and pests under control.
Ken based the course content on field-proven gardening practices developed by researchers at Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service. Handouts included the AgriLife Texas Home Vegetable Gardening Guide and a list of links to additional AgriLife resources related to growing vegetables.
The class generated positive feedback from attendees and significantly increased engagement with Erath County residents. A number of people communicated with ECMG through the group’s Facebook page, requesting additional information such as recommended vegetable varieties for Erath County, planting calendars, and time to harvest for various vegetables.
This year’s Adventures in Gardening series will encompass four classes. Topics and dates for the remaining three classes will be announced soon.
